I've decided to call this blog "colorless green ideas sleep furiously." It has long been a favorite quite of mine (Noam Chomsky, by the way, if you're wondering), because I just love those words, and I love how the sentence itself makes absolutely no sense, and yet, syntactically, it's a perfect sentence. I love it in a similar way that I love "The Jabberwocky", by Lewis Carroll... you should google that right now, if you are unfamiliar.
I am now installed in Florida, in my new townhouse. I intend to post some pictures, both here and on Facebook, but I have a million things to do at the moment, so nothing quite yet. But they are coming, I know you are eagerly awaiting them.
Today has been both an extraordinarily boring day and a wonderfully exciting day. Today, I woke up early so that my internet and cable could be installed. I also ran errands, such as renters and car insurance, the bank, and getting gas for my car (which is about 40 cents cheaper here than in the mitten). Then it was back to the house, waiting for my mattress and the movers to come deliver my things. A day of moving things in and unpacking somewhat.
The wonderfully exciting news came later, but I don't want to spoil it before it can be shared by those who's news it is. Though, you may be able to guess anyway.
"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." -- Howard Thurman

My Last Days in the Mitten
Wednesday night was the first time that I was sad about leaving for Florida. Some of my friends wrote me these lovely cards, and it made me realize how much I am going to miss them. Tonight, I went to a Tigers game with Caitlin, and when we said goodbye, we both broek down and cried. Right there in the middle of the street.
We're such girls.
But tomorrow, I get to see Lindsey, who I haven't seen in ages! It will all be good fun, and then the car packing frenzy will begin. It's going to be a bit crazy, since I haven't really packed everything up yet. Yikes!
28 hours until I leave for Florida!

It's the final countdown...!
You know, when I opened up my browser I thought I had a whole entry in mind for you, but apparently all I have in my brain is a whole bunch of random strings of thought, which are barely coherent.
Six days to Florida!

It's a packing extravaganza!
To recap: last week, I accepted a job with Beth Ingram Therapy Services in Brandon, FL. Which means that I am running around like crazy trying to get everything ready and figure out where to even start packing. Assuming that the application for the townhouse I picked out goes through, I have roughly 30 days to tie up my loose ends here and pack up my entire life. And send it to Florida. It's sinking in that I am officially giving up my status as a Michigander and becoming a Floridian.
Packing has become a huge point of stress. We have the following problems:
1. Mom will already be in Florida, awaiting the birth of New Baby B, and therefore unavailable to drive to FL or help pack. Which leaves...
2. Dad and I to drive to Florida ourselves. Neither of use relish the idea of driving our own separate cars (my car and a U-Haul). So we decided to...
3. Hire a moving company. Prices are a bit much, in my opinion, and we have to give them an estimate of house much stuff I have. Which I don't know, since I'm not packed.
You can see how it becomes an issue. Add my anxiety, Mom's anxiety, and Dad's ability to move slowly together with a pinch of time crunch, and you get a recipe for disaster. Bake at 450 for 2 ours and voila! Chocolatey goodness baked full of rage and crazy people.
Where was I? Oh yeah.
I'm moving to Florida. It's a bit insane.

insert imaginative title here.
Currently, I have a giant headache, my niece keeps flopping her legs on to me as she sleeps on her bed above the trundle on which I currently lie, and yet I am happy, because I am in Florida.
I shall have to draft a more entertaining tale later on, but suffice it to say that I have now had two interviews. One for EBS and one for Hillsborough County Public Schools. They both went fairly well, though I feel as though maybe EBS is a little too pushy with why they want to hire me. I can't help but think that they have something nefarious in mind, which is almost too paranoid to put into words. But I did it anyway.
Because I'm a rebel.

the mexico hypothesis
Here's the thing. I've traveled a bit. I've been to Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy... I'm not deprived of travelling. One might say (very rightly) that I've been a bit spoiled in this area compared to many people.
And yet.
I very much would like to go to Mexico this winter with Karen, her daughter Emily, and my mother. I firmly believe that my mom would enjoy such an experience. Karen, you see, has these vacation packages to an all-inclusive resort in Cancun. Which sounds just like my cup of tea. All we would have to pay is air travel, which at this point is appearing to be in the $500-$600 range. Not bad, considering that I am paying more than that to go to Florida next week during spring break for job interviews. But that's another story for another time.
I beg my mom to consider that this would be a chance for her to spend a full week with her lovely daughter whom (who?) she won't have seen in months doing very relaxing things. It sounds ideal to me. If only there was a way (monetary and otherwise) that I could work it out to come back to Michigan for Christmas, and then head back down to Florida afterwards. Only time will tell.
Call me spoiled rotten, call me materialistic, call me base. I don't much care. I want to go to Mexico.
